Designing my PhD Aesthetic

One of my favorite things to do these days, when I'm scrambling to finish a paper or when I'm in-between hour 4 and hour 5 of literature searches, is to make something.

Now while I would love to break out the sewing machine and spend a day trying to make one piece of clothing (I actually enjoy this), somedays I'm really needing that instant gratification.

What's better than making something functional? Also making it look good!

From my Kanban board organizer to my desktop background, it turns out I've been developing an aesthetic - my PhD aesthetic.

Rich and muted tones of brown and shades of beige, simple shapes and a bit of flourish. Pretty and functional.

So the next time you find yourself staring at the cursor marker of your word document for too long. Open up your favorite design software and make something, anything, make it quick, make it functional and make it look nice.
